Wet Wade Fly Fishing Pant

The Wet Wade Pant is a versatile fly fishing pant that subs in for your waders during the oppressive heat of the summer. You can rely on the Wet Wade Pant to get you through the brier and thorns on the hike into that secret back-country spot and then keep you cool all day while you hunt for that giant Brown hiding by the bank.

Design considerations include:

  • Tapered for hydrodynamics and to cut down on underwater movement
  • A reinforced hem eliminates acceloratred hem wear on delicate quick dry fabrics
  • Dry-bag hip pocket provides a place to store valuables while wading
  • Integrated belt provides needed support for wet pants coming out of the river

Sketch Iteration

Sketching is a big part of every project I undertake. I prefer to get all my ideas out, good or bad, and then down select to a few that can represent buckets to dive deeper into later. I had a good idea of what I thought would work well quite quickly and was able to move to technical drawings.

I created a tech pack that details some of the color, material choices and finshes of the form of the pant. I then moved to learning how I could manufacture a pair for myself.

Execution

In order to get a better understanding for the construction of similar pants on the market, I purchased afew pairs that had a similar fit to what I was trying to design. I used a seam ripper to fully dismantle each pair and understand the pattern of each panel.

I then took up the task of learning how to digitally sew in Marvelous Designer. This was a fun process because I was also in the middle of teaching myself Keyshot and Blender for rendering and animation. I was on a hot streak of collecting new programs to master. I was able to digitally model and rig up a maniquin to showcase the Wet Wade pant.
